Rapid advancements in electric car technology have resulted in a sharp increase in the number of electric cars on Canadian streets. Seeing this yourself, you may be wondering if the time is right for you to buy an electric car? As approximately 98% of BC’s electricity is produced through renewable sources, today’s electric cars are a viable option for consumers looking to reduce fossil fuel dependancy. With an ever increasing number of Comox Valley residents buying electric cars, it’s no surprise to us to see more of our customers booking an electric car charger installation.
Recently, one of our customers took delivery of this beautiful Tesla Model 3 electric car. We were only too happy to install a Tesla charging point in his garage and were thrilled to be invited for a ride in this cutting edge electric car. The unparalleled performance and supreme comfort of this vehicle did not disappoint!
Electric Car Charger Installation – What Is the Benefit?
Your electric car can be charged simply by plugging it into a standard receptacle in your home (using the adaptor that came with your electric car). While this charging method does work, it can take up to 16 hours to completely charge your electric vehicle. For those who need the convenience of a faster charge, an electric car will charge in approximately half the time when plugged into a Level 2 charger. While faster charging means greater freedom, be aware that installing an electric car charging point means wiring a dedicated power feed from your electrical panel. For this reason, we recommend asking a licensed electrician to advise you on the feasibility of your electric car charger installation. Depending on the location of your electrical panel and available breaker space, this task will vary in cost.
You may also have questions about how and where you will charge your electric vehicle while travelling. As more electric cars hit the road, charging stations are popping up in new locations on Vancouver Island and throughout BC each week. If you plan to travel long distances, Plug Share and EV Charge Hub have up-to-date information for planning battery top-ups all over North America. For additional information on owning, driving and charging an electric vehicle, we recommend joining the Vancouver Electric Vehicle Association. This organization is working to build a valuable network of resources pertaining to the use of electric vehicles in the lower mainland and throughout island communities.
Are You Ready for Your Electric Car Charger Installation?
If you have purchased an electric vehicle and want to book an electric car charger installation, give us a call! We’d be happy to take a look at your electrical panel to see if this is possible. Remember – any new wiring in your home should always be completed under a permit by a licensed electrician. This protects you from the risk of an electrical fire and protects your new electric car from damage due to illegal wiring. Happy EV driving from Comox Valley Electric!
